Your ideas, your creativity

Chromonauts brings young people together through visual art, shared projects and creative exploration. You help choose the themes and activities, with opportunities to explore identity, belonging, the places around us and the changes you want to see.

You do not need experience or to think of yourself as artistic. There are different ways to contribute, from making and experimenting to planning ideas, helping others or watching before joining in.

More than an art session

Creative work provides a starting point for friendship, conversation and building confidence. Youth workers take time to get to know you, listen and help make the group welcoming and supportive.

Activities across TD1’s Creative Communities programme have included painting, sculpture, junk art, photography, badge making, puppets, gallery visits and collaborative community art. The programme builds on work with Little Art Hub and young people’s involvement in the Langlee underpass mural.

The 2026 creative programme, Chromonauts: Demolition Art, explores place, identity and belonging through young people’s ideas and collaborative making.

A space to feel comfortable

Chromonauts is particularly welcoming to LGBTQI+ young people and allies, including young people who find other groups overwhelming. You do not need to disclose anything about your identity to ask about joining.

We can talk about quieter ways to take part, predictable routines, communication preferences and a first visit that feels manageable. You can choose a role that suits your confidence and comfort.
