Meeting you where you are
Detached youth work means spending time in the streets, parks and public spaces where young people already meet. You do not need to attend TD1 or be referred to have a conversation with our youth workers.
By returning regularly and taking time to listen, we build familiar, dependable relationships. We want to understand what matters to you, what is happening locally and what could make a difference.
Outreach helps connect young people with activities and support, particularly when getting through the door of a service feels difficult. The relationship can begin with a quick chat and grow at your pace.
Honest conversations, practical help
We offer a non-judgemental space to talk about wellbeing, relationships, peer pressure, alcohol or drugs, money worries and everyday challenges. We look at the whole situation and what support you want, rather than defining you by a difficulty.
Youth workers can help you explore choices, understand options and take manageable next steps. Where more support would help, we can make an introduction and help you connect with the right person, rather than simply handing over a phone number.
Opening up opportunities
Young people’s ideas help shape activities and groups. Sport, music, games, shared food and outings can provide a starting point for friendship, confidence and new interests. What is available varies, so speak to the team about current opportunities.
Street-based contact can lead to individual support, advocacy or joining a group when you feel ready. We can also introduce related opportunities such as TD1 CashBack Extra, including its fortnightly Saturday Drop-in and Langlee Youth Café.

Ask about detached and outreach workSupporting early help
Our targeted early-intervention work is supported through the Scottish Government’s National Drugs Mission Local Support Fund, administered by Corra Foundation. This helps us build relationships, respond early and connect young people with support and positive alternatives.
Relationships. Opportunities. Progress.
Youth work beyond the hub
Regular contact helps young people get to know the team, ask questions and explore support on their own terms.

Feeling safe and supported
You can talk to a youth worker if something worries you or makes it difficult to take part. We listen and take concerns seriously. We cannot promise to keep information secret if sharing it is needed to help keep someone safe.
